Thrifty Finds and Weekend Bliss!

So I have been struggling with what to write about for the past hour or so. I have decided I will write about my weekend...

My weekend was very good! We spent most of our weekend with my family and it was quite nice. Saturday morning we all got up and started a deep clean of the house. It's sad to say but that is the cleanest my house has been in about 6 months! Things have been moved around, things have been purchased, things have been organized, and now looking at it all and how easy it is to keep it all so clean I find myself saying why didn't you get this all done sooner??? It has been the most fulfilling feeling to know you have a clean house and to know that you don't have to do much to maintain it. But back on track. My mom, sister, and her boyfriend came up on Saturday. (I must admit I was very skeptical at first as to my little sister having a boyfriend. My thinking is that she needs to be less concerned with boys and more concerned with school. But this guy is really great. He is a sweet, kind, loving young man. He is very smart and well rounded. He has a great head on his shoulders. So my little sister has two thumbs up from me.) We hung out and decided to make a store run to pick up some stuff for dinner. On our way I was telling my mom about wanting to get some more chairs for my kitchen table so we decided to stop at our local GW and check out if they had any. And guess what they did! They had these sweet padded chairs that were super comfy. Ok they are not exactly the prettiest looking chairs (black and white checker board pattern) but they aren't going to look like that for long! They were only 10 bucks a piece! You can't beat that!

Then we headed down to the publix and picked up a few things for dinner. On our way back to my house we saw this beautiful cabinet/hutch/cupboard thing! It reminds the hubby and I of the one from Beauty and the Beast!
I can't believe the price we paid for it! I could not pass it up. We spent 10 smack a roo's!!! Yes folks it's true! The reason it was so low in price is because as you see below the bottom two drawers are missing. But with a cute curtain rod and the right fabric that problem will be easily remedied. I can also see some paint on this in the near future. I am still debating what I should do with it. Whether I should use it in the kitchen, or in my bedroom. It is up in the air at the moment. Any thoughts?
So back to my weekend. We went back to my house and my mom and I hung out while Ethan took a nap, and while hubby, Austin, Katelynn (lil sister) and James (sisters bf) went to Austin's baseball practice. We all had a wonderful day on Saturday! Sunday morning hubby, Ethan, and I headed to my mom's house to pick up Austin (who spent the night), Katelynn, and James (who didn't spend the night, but was dropped off that morning) to take them to church with us and help out with the kids in the nursery. We all had a great time and then hubby and Ethan went home while the gang went shopping and to lunch! So there was my weekend in a nutshell. A very big nutshell, but a nutshell nonetheless!

I hope everyone has a Blessed week!

Oooh I have a girlfriend who does upholstery. If you want to recover the chairs, maybe she could help you or you could pay her to do it? Email me if you're interested! :)

Hi Jhenna, thanks for your comments. The cupboard is really great and what a deal! First you need to know if it's solid wood, veneer(spell check) or laminate. It looks like it's in good shape so if it's solid wood you just need to sand and you don't need to get all the finish off, just rough it up. Then go over all of it with a rag with paint thinner on it. This works good for me. Depending on what color you go with next....if you go with a light color then I would prime it first, this helps to keep the paint even without dark spots... If you go with a darker color then just paint it. If you like the shabby look then sand the edges and other random areas, I'm a heavy sander, this way if your boys bang it up it just adds to the character of the cupboard. The using a clean lint free rag I go over the sanded edges with mahogany stain, and then wipe off excess with rag dampened in paint thinner. As for baskest on the bottom you're going to have to find ones that really enhance the piece...I would go with a curtain cause I think a wonderful fabric would look great..then have baskets inside. Hope this helps, it's a great piece, so have fun with it..
